Grants, Awards and Other Programs
The Electronic Anesthesiology Library (TEAL) project was developed and launched in 1996 as an important new CD-ROM project, TEAL, in collaboration with The British Journal of Anaesthesia, Anesthesiology, and the Canadian Journal of Anaesthesia. TEAL was an electronic product that combined 5 years of content from four of the leading anesthesia journals worldwide – Anesthesia & Analgesia, Anesthesiology, the British Journal of Anaesthesia, and the Canadian Journal of Anaesthesia – on a single CDROM.
Talmage D. Egan received the IARS Anesthesiology Teaching Recognition Award at the 1997 IARS Annual Meeting and presented a Review Course Lecture on “The Clinical Pharmacology of the New Fetanyl Congeners.”

Plaques and Seals
Designed by Dr. Francis H. McMechan and under the authority of, the IARS Board of Governors, the use of the year 1922 appears deliberate. The year 1922 continues to be used as the official IARS start date. The official seal exemplifies the society’s founding purpose. The lady represents the figure of medical science; the light is the search for knowledge; the leaf symbolizes truth; and the owl in front of the globe personifies wisdom.

A flyer, created by Dr. George Bause and distributed at the IARS 2012 Annual Meeting, about the “loving cup” trophy that was given to Francis and Lorette McMechan in absentia at the 1937 Congress of Anesthetists.
The IARS offered the “loving cup” trophy to its founders, Francis and Lorette McMechan. Because Dr. McMechan was so ill, the McMechans could not attend the IARS meeting in October 1937 at which the trophy was presented. The trophy cup now resides with the IARS archives at the Wood Library-Museum of Anesthesiology.
