How to Get Started / Next Steps

  1. Join Membership

    Make sure you have the correct membership tier (In-Training or Early-Career) so you get full access to benefits and grants.

  2. Plan Your Annual Meeting Participation

    Submit abstracts to the Annual Meeting. Look for travel grants especially if you are from a LMIC or UMIC. Mark deadlines for abstract submission and grant application deadlines.

  3. Engage in Learning & Networking Now

    Attend webinars, join journal clubs in the Online Community, participate in eSAS peer groups. Reach out for mentors. Use past meeting recordings or education library to fill in gaps.

  4. Apply for Funding & Awards

    Explore the research award opportunities (IMRA, Global Scholars), travel grants and other awards. Start small (pilot projects, case studies) to build track record.

  5. Get Involved in IARS & Outreach

    Join committees, help moderate poster sessions, and participate in discussions in the online community. These roles offer leadership experience and broader visibility.

  • Am I eligible for Early Career membership?

    If you have completed training (residency/fellowship) within the past five years (for MD/DO etc.), yes. If you are still in training, you can sign up for the In-Training tier.

  • What if I’m based in a low‐, lower‐middle- or upper-middle-income country?

    IARS offers LMIC membership rates, travel grants, and the Global Scholars Award, all tailored to support members in resource-limited settings.

  • How do I find mentorship or connect with peers?

    Join the eSAS community and other IARS Online Communities. Attend live webinars and participate in online journal clubs. Volunteer and committee roles are also good pathways.

  • What deadlines should I be aware of?

    Abstract submission deadlines, travel grant deadlines, and research award deadlines change each year. Check the Current Grants page and the Annual Meeting website for more information.
