The IARS Board of Trustees expresses its appreciation and gratitude to Jean-Francois Pittet, MD, for his outstanding service as the 7th Editor-in-Chief of Anesthesia & Analgesia.
Under his stewardship, A&A remains a premier clinical anesthesiology journal, achieving its highest-ever Journal Impact Factor, 6.627, for 2021 and ranking at the top of the field annually for receiving the most article citations. Four new specialty society affiliations — with the Society for Airway Management, the Society for the Advancement of Patient Blood Management, the Society for the Advancement of Geriatric Anesthesia, and the American Society for Enhanced Recovery, were added to the breadth of expertise and coverage in the Journal.
During Dr. Pittet’s tenure, A&A has added monthly InfoGraphics to support featured articles, and Visual Abstracts to enhance many more articles. There are monthly podcasts for featured articles, and webinars to support and promote thematic issues. Thematic issues have covered timely topics ranging from the opioid crisis through AI in perioperative medicine, and more. And A&A is the first journal in anesthesiology to add an editorial position specific to diversity, equity and inclusion, with a goal to promote greater equity in healthcare provided around the world.
Dr. Pittet has ably led the centenarian institution that is Anesthesia & Analgesia to new heights and leaves it continuing on a positive trajectory.
