Assessing perioperative comorbidities through latent class analysis
Current methods of risk stratification do not account for combinations of comorbidities that have detrimental synergistic effects on perioperative outcomes and do not identify the combination of comorbidities that are actually present in the patients undergoing surgery. Comorbidities are treated as distinct, separate entities but there can be associations between even seemingly unrelated comorbidities. Dr. Kim will examine patterns of comorbidities and risk factors that are associated with adverse perioperative outcomes in patients undergoing intra-abdominal general surgery, a group with a high risk of developing adverse perioperative outcomes.
