Editor-in-Chief, Anesthesia & Analgesia
The International Anesthesia Research Society (IARS) announces its search for the next Editor-in-Chief of its flagship journal, Anesthesia & Analgesia, the leading clinical journal in anesthesiology. Dr. Jean-Francois Pittet’s second term as Editor-in-Chief will conclude at the end of March 2024. The EIC provides leadership and strategic vision for the journal as well as reports on all editorial matters to the IARS Board of Trustees (BOT). Other responsibilities include maintaining the journal’s standard of excellence building on its reputation nationally and internationally.
The EIC will be responsible for conducting, directing, and/or supervising the solicitation, evaluation, revision, and selection of all scientific and other materials to be published in A&A. The incumbent will work efficiently with the journal’s online manuscript processing system to conduct initial screening of manuscripts; make timely decisions about reviewed and revised submissions; provide constructive comments for authors as appropriate; write editorials; and meet with IARS Journals staff.
Applicants should have a broad perspective of the anesthesiology field and be astute to emerging areas of research and practice. A high level of visibility and recognized leadership in anesthesiology research, scholarly publication, and practice are expected. The successful candidate will have extensive experience with prominent, peer-reviewed scholarly journals as author, peer reviewer, and associate editor, editorial board member, or editor-in-chief; and demonstrate access to a large network of experts working in fields relevant to clinical anesthesiology, including perioperative medicine, critical care, and pain management.

The successful candidate will be committed to progressing diversity, equity and inclusion among Anesthesia & Analgesia’s editorial board and reviewers as well as in science, research, and patient care through the Journal.
Applications should be received by September 1, 2022, and include a cover letter describing the reasons for interest in the position, a brief description of the candidate’s editorial experience, and a curriculum vitae. After a review of applications, candidates meeting the listed qualifications will be asked to provide additional information about their experience and strategic vision for Anesthesia & Analgesia.
First-round interviews will be conducted in November/December 2022 and finalists will be interviewed in early 2023. The new A&A Editor-in-Chief will be named in early 2023. Transition into the position will begin by mid-2023, with the actual initial 5-year term beginning April 1, 2024.
