Anesthesia & Analgesia (A&A) and A&A Practice (AAP), the journals of the International Anesthesia Research Society (IARS), are seeking a Digital Content Editor (DCE). This is a single, joint appointment across both journals. The DCE leads digital and multimedia content strategy for A&A and A&A Practice and reports jointly to the Editor-in-Chief of A&A and the Executive Editor of A&A Practice.

About the Role

The DCE is the strategic lead for all digital and multimedia content across both journals, spanning video, audio, infographics, animation, affiliated podcast content, newsletters, and social channels. The goal is a consistent, high-quality, recognizable digital presence that draws readers to the journals and supports deeper engagement with published work. The DCE works in close partnership with editorial leadership, the IARS social media team, the journal management team, Wolters Kluwer, and existing multimedia programs.

Core Responsibilities

• Set annual digital content strategy and maintain an integrated editorial calendar across both journals.
• Run the pathway that moves accepted articles into multimedia treatment, and commission native content not tied to a manuscript.
• Own the author experience, from intake and consent through preview, recognition, and shared metrics.
• Lead the team and resources: Fellows, any Assistant Editors, external vendors, and standards for AI tool use and disclosure.
• Coordinate with the IARS social media team and plan conference coverage.

Who We are Looking For

• A current IARS member in good standing (required and required to be maintained throughout the appointment).
• Demonstrated capability and creativity in digital and multimedia scholarly or scientific communication.
• Familiarity with social platforms (for example: X, LinkedIn, Bluesky) and with content analytics.
• The judgment to prioritize clinical relevance and reader value in selection and commissioning decisions.
• Experience leading people and managing vendors or external contributors is an advantage.

Applicants should not hold an equivalent digital editorial or handling editor role at another journal where they have primary responsibility for digital content strategy, or handle (as opposed to simply review) manuscripts.
